Behind the Works

Jasmine Fernandez

Hello, I’m Jasmine. I’m a self-taught creative based in the Philippines. For years, I worked in humanitarian communications before coming to believe that my calling was to create art for God.

I have loved stationery and journaling since I was a child. I remember receiving my first diary when I was around five or six years old. It had a little lock on it, and I was so happy to finally have one of my own. In elementary school, I would always make sure that my projects had covers decorated with cute borders and beautiful hand lettering.

In 2016, I started creative journaling as a hobby. It happened very simply. I first fell in love with typography and calligraphy through the works I saw online. I thought about them constantly, and it felt as though a fire had been ignited in me. I remember thinking, “I want to become an artist one day.”

I began learning how to paint with watercolor and eventually found my way to acrylics.

When I entered college, my creative hobbies took a backseat because university life basically became my whole life. In the middle of it, the pandemic happened, and I found an opportunity to build a small side hustle through art. A good friend joined me, and together, we started Art Joy.

It felt wonderful to do something we loved while earning from it. However, after completing our college degrees, we both turned our attention to our “big girl” jobs. Art Joy eventually came to an end because managing the logistics, creating the artwork, and running the entire operation had become difficult for our setup.

The dream was buried, and for a long time, thinking about what could have been always carried a certain kind of pain.

A few years later, however, the desire to create was reignited in me. I felt the same fire I had felt in 2016. Art was constantly on my mind, to the point that I became frustrated whenever I could not express myself through it.

Fast forward to 2026, ten years after that first spark, and God echoed the calling to create art more loudly than ever before. After leaving my most recent full-time work, I knew it was finally time to bring the vision to life.

This time, I stepped forward with God in obedience. I spent months sitting with Him in silence, asking how I was meant to pursue this calling.

Then came Cometh Morning Studio.

After seasons of challenge, waiting, and pruning, the Lord reminded me of His promise that joy cometh in the morning. That promise led me back to creating, and it became the heart of Cometh Morning Studio.

Inspired by my own seasons of pruning and intimate reflections with the Lord, I create colorful, whimsical and tactile (textured) depictions that seek to reflect His glory and share His gift of joy with us all.

“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
